Patna: People living in cities across Bihar will soon get piped natural gas (PNG) directly in their kitchens, ending the trouble of carrying heavy LPG cylinders. The Bihar government has approved the Urban Gas Distribution Policy 2025 to make this possible. Under this plan, more than 30 lakh homes will get PNG connections through pipelines in all 38 districts of the state.
The Food and Consumer Protection Department has issued a notification to implement this policy. Officials said that this move will not only help households but also make natural gas easily available for industries, shops, transport, and other uses. To support this, around 650 CNG stations will be built in different parts of Bihar, increasing clean fuel options for vehicles as well.
To ensure the work happens quickly, District Magistrates have been given responsibility to oversee the laying of pipelines. A special committee will be formed in each district under the DM’s chairmanship to monitor the work, and it will include 15 members such as the SP and other officials. At the state level, a coordination committee will work under the Development Commissioner to resolve any issues that come up.
Once piped gas reaches homes, people will save money as they will no longer need to pay high prices for LPG cylinder refills and transportation costs. There will be no shortage of gas, and kitchens will have a continuous 24-hour supply. The government hopes this new policy will increase the use of clean energy in Bihar and reduce dependence on traditional LPG cylinders.
