Patna: The Bihar Police Headquarters has directed all police stations in the state to establish dedicated Child Help Desks or Child Corners from October 2. The initiative was announced in a press release issued on September 17, 2026.
The designated spaces will provide a child-friendly environment for children and members of vulnerable sections visiting police stations, while allowing them and their guardians to access designated police officials directly.
Separate Space For Children
The Child Help Desk or Child Corner will be located in a specific area of each police station and must remain completely separate from the lock-up area, according to the police headquarters’ directions.
The arrangement is intended to ensure that children visiting police stations do not have to remain in or near areas associated with detention.
CWPO To Oversee Help Desk
The designated Child Welfare Police Officer (CWPO) at each police station will supervise the Child Help Desk. The officer’s name, designation and mobile number will be displayed prominently at the designated location.
The contact details of the District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) will also be displayed so that children and their guardians can reach the appropriate authority when required.
Complaints To Be Recorded
The initiative provides for direct communication between children, guardians and the designated officials regarding complaints or requests for assistance.
Police stations have been instructed to take prompt action on such complaints and requests and maintain records of their resolution.
Female Personnel For Cases Involving Girls
Qualified female police personnel will be made available for communication and grievance redressal in cases involving girls. Their contact numbers will also be displayed at the Child Help Desk or Child Corner.
The Bihar Police Headquarters said the initiative is intended to create an accessible and child-friendly point of contact within police stations for children and their guardians.
