Patna: Bihar Police has begun creating digital records of offenders ranging from petty criminals to major accused persons, with information being stored and shared through the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS).
At a press conference at Police Headquarters, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order and Weaker Sections) KS Anupam said crime-related information is being secured using modern technology and disseminated to police stations across the country. In cases where international coordination is required, the information may also be shared with Interpol.
Digital Records And Online Verification
KS Anupam said that escaping detection after committing a crime has become increasingly difficult because offender records are now maintained digitally.
She also said the process of obtaining character certificates has been made fully online. The police advised young people to stay away from criminal activities and comply with the law.
Youth Legal Awareness Campaign
Police Headquarters will launch the ‘Operation Vidhi Palak Yuvak’ campaign from July 21 to August 10.
Under the initiative, high school and college students will be educated about legal provisions and their rights. The campaign will include awareness sessions on the POCSO Act, anti-dowry laws, domestic violence, and the safe use of social media.
Social Media Surveillance
The police said surveillance has been intensified on platforms including Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube.
According to the data shared at the press conference, 514 objectionable posts and videos were identified for allegedly disturbing social harmony through religious or caste-based comments. Action has been taken in 243 of those cases.
Action On Weapon Display Videos
Bihar Police is also taking action against individuals who post videos or photographs showing themselves brandishing weapons on social media.
Between May 1 and July 14, police registered 102 FIRs and arrested 130 people in connection with such incidents. During the same period, 40 weapons were seized.
The highest number of enforcement actions in these cases was reported from Patna, Naugachia, Gopalganj, Sitamarhi, and Motihari.
Asset Attachment Drive
A special drive for the attachment and confiscation of assets belonging to absconding criminals is also underway.
Police said that between July 11 and July 20, a total of 2,125 attachment and confiscation actions were carried out.
Operation Naya Savera
KS Anupam said that under ‘Operation Naya Savera-3.0’, conducted from July 1 to July 14, police registered 52 FIRs.
During the operation, 109 alleged human traffickers were arrested and 157 individuals were rescued. The rescued persons included 82 women and 75 men.
Law-And-Order Enforcement
The police also shared data on action taken during May and June in cases related to communal violence, attacks on police personnel, mob violence, and celebratory firing.
A total of 533 accused persons were arrested in connection with these cases. During the same period, the testimony of more than 49,000 witnesses was recorded in court, according to Police Headquarters.
