Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has issued a notification revising motor vehicle tax rates, introducing higher taxes on premium two-wheelers and updating tax provisions for three-wheelers and vehicles held by dealers and manufacturers.
Under the revised structure, two-wheelers have been divided into four tax slabs based on their ex-showroom price. Vehicles priced up to Rs 1 lakh will continue to attract tax at 9% of the ex-showroom price.
Two-wheelers costing more than Rs 1 lakh and up to Rs 8 lakh will now be taxed at 10% of their total price. Those priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 15 lakh will attract an 11% tax, while two-wheelers costing more than Rs 15 lakh will be subject to a 13% tax.
Revised Tax Structure for Three-Wheelers
According to the notification, newly registered three-wheelers with a seating capacity of four passengers will be required to pay a lump-sum tax of Rs 11,000 for a period of 15 years.
Owners may alternatively opt to pay Rs 7,700 for the first 10 years, followed by Rs 7,000 for the subsequent five years.
For newly registered three-wheelers with a seating capacity of seven passengers, the department has fixed a lump-sum tax of Rs 16,000 for 15 years.
As an alternative, owners can pay Rs 12,000 for the first 10 years and Rs 10,000 for the following five years.
Annual Tax for Dealer-Held Vehicles
The notification also introduces annual taxes on vehicles held by dealers and manufacturers.
Under the revised rates, dealers will be required to pay an annual tax of Rs 600 for each motorcycle, Rs 1,000 for every heavy vehicle chassis and Rs 800 for all other categories of vehicles.
The revised tax provisions will apply in accordance with the Transport Department’s notification.
