Patna: The Bihar Police department has undergone a significant administrative reshuffle, with six officers, including four Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, transferred across key positions, officials said on Wednesday. The changes, announced by the state Home Department, are expected to impact policing at the district level.
Among the most notable changes, the Superintendents of Police (SPs) for Naugachhia and Lakhisarai districts have been replaced. Prerna Kumar has been appointed as the new SP of Lakhisarai, while Rajesh Kumar, formerly of the Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau, takes charge as SP of Naugachhia. Both officers have begun assuming their new responsibilities.
Other senior appointments include Avdhesh Dixit, who moves from his role as SP of Lakhisarai to become SP (Personnel-I) at Bihar Police Headquarters. Ajay Kumar Pandey has been reassigned as DIG of the Prohibition and Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), after previously serving in the Vigilance Investigation Bureau.
The reshuffle also affected officers of the Bihar Police Service. Ramkrishna has been transferred from Katihar to serve as SDPO-I in Barh, while Anand Kumar Singh has been moved from Barh to oversee security at Patna High Court as DSP. Both have been directed to assume their new posts promptly.
The Home Department, based in Patna, orchestrated the entire series of transfers. While departmental officials describe the reshuffle as part of routine administrative operations, the simultaneous movement of multiple officers is seen as a strategic step to maintain law and order and improve operational efficiency across districts.
Authorities expect the appointments to strengthen policing, with campaigns related to liquor prohibition and anti-narcotics enforcement likely to gain renewed focus. Officials emphasised that the real impact of these administrative changes on law and order will become evident in the coming weeks.
