Patna: Several senior IPS officers in Bihar are set to retire over the next two years, triggering an imminent reshuffle across the police administration. The list includes officers from the Director General (DG) level to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP), signalling a period of transition for the state police.
Director General of Police Vinay Kumar will retire at the end of 2026. His tenure was extended by two years following his appointment as DGP in December 2024; he was originally due to retire on September 30, 2025.
Former DGP Alok Raj, currently serving as Director General of the Bihar Police Building Construction Corporation, will retire on December 31, 2025. Home Guard DG Shobha Ohatkar is set to retire on June 30, 2026, while DG-rank officer Praveen Vashisht, currently on central deputation, will superannuate on May 31, 2026.
Several Additional Director General (ADG) and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) ranks will also see vacancies. ADG Arvind Kumar, posted on central deputation, will retire on October 31, 2026, while Paresh Saxena, Additional Commissioner of Civil Defence, will retire on December 31, 2026. Among DIGs, Mohammad Rashid Zaman is scheduled to retire on August 31, 2026.
At the SP level, a number of officers will conclude their service next year. Vigilance SP Subodh Kumar Biswas will retire on October 31, 2026, while Commandant Dilnawaz Ahmed will retire earlier on January 31, 2026. AIG-1 Sanjay Bharti will superannuate on February 28, 2026, and SP Chandrashekhar Prasad Vidyarthi on August 31, 2026.
The series of retirements is expected to prompt internal restructuring across districts and specialised units. Senior officials have indicated that succession planning and cadre management will be key priorities in the coming months.
