New Delhi/Patna: The Bihar government has presented its power sector transformation and future investment plans at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, where it participated as a Focus State Partner with a dedicated session on energy growth and sustainability.
Titled “Powering Bihar’s Growth: Innovation, Inclusion & Investment”, the session was held at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. Senior officials and industry leaders gathered to discuss the state’s progress in improving electricity access, financial performance and infrastructure.
Addressing the session, Manoj Kumar Singh, Bihar’s energy secretary and chairman of the Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), outlined a marked turnaround in the sector. According to the presentation, the state’s transmission utility has moved from a loss of Rs 342 crore in 2013–14 to a profit of Rs 2,004 crore projected for 2024–25.

Officials said Bihar has also witnessed a sharp rise in electricity demand, with peak demand met crossing 8,700 MW in 2025–26, reflecting both economic growth and improved supply. Distribution companies have reduced aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses to around 15.5%, alongside gains in billing and revenue collection efficiency.
The state has expanded its use of smart prepaid metering, installing more than 8.7 million meters—among the highest in India—aimed at improving transparency and financial sustainability.

Looking ahead, Bihar plans to invest over Rs 81,000 crore in its power sector over the next five years, covering generation, transmission and distribution. It has also set a target of achieving 24 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 as part of its clean energy transition strategy.
The session included a panel discussion featuring industry leaders such as Gurdeep Singh of NTPC Limited, Ghanshyam Prasad of the Central Electricity Authority, and representatives from companies including the Adani Group, ACME Solar Holdings, Secure Meters, Greenko Group, and Larsen & Toubro.

Senior Bihar officials, including Mahendra Kumar and Rahul Kumar, were also present at the event, alongside representatives from state utilities and the energy department.
