Purnia: Purnia Court railway station is set to undergo a significant transformation in the new year, with plans to upgrade all three of its platforms to high-level standards at an estimated cost of Rs 6.22 crore. The project, aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and safety, has already begun its preliminary stages, with a tender issued and work expected to be completed within a year.

The station, which falls under the NSG-3 category and is the last stop in the Samastipur division of East Central Railway, has seen a series of development projects in recent years, including platform improvements and infrastructure enhancements. The new high-level platforms will make boarding and alighting easier for passengers, particularly for the elderly, women, children, and people with disabilities.

Officials have also indicated plans for a coaching complex and a washing pit, fulfilling long-standing demands raised both in the Bihar assembly and the Samastipur division railway advisory committee.

Purnia Court is a busy hub, serving approximately 15,000 passengers daily. It accommodates several trains, including the Kosi, Janhit, Janseva, and Garib Rath specials, with four express and five passenger trains passing through the station. The Kosi Express, for example, departs at 2 a.m., travelling via Saharsa to Patna and Hatia. The station also hosts a reserved ticket counter, offering bookings to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Punjab, generating a monthly revenue of around Rs 12 lakh.

The planned upgrades aim not only to improve passenger experience but also to give the station a modern and safer look, reflecting the growing importance of Purnia Court in Bihar’s railway network.
