Patna: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old cricket prodigy from Bihar, has been recognised for his extraordinary achievements on the field with the Prime Minister’s National Children’s Award. The award was presented by President Droupadi Murmu, who praised Vaibhav for his exceptional talent and encouraged him to continue inspiring other young athletes.
“You have set many records at a young age. This is just the beginning,” President Murmu said during the ceremony. “I am confident that you will continue to perform well and become a role model for other children.”
Vaibhav’s rise in Indian cricket has been meteoric. Earlier this week, he shattered a 39-year-old List A record by scoring a 36-ball century against Arunachal Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, finishing with an astonishing 190 runs from 84 balls. His innings included 16 fours and 15 sixes, and also set a new benchmark for the fastest 150, surpassing the records of AB de Villiers and Jos Buttler.
The young cricketer had to miss Bihar’s second match against Manipur to travel to Delhi for the award ceremony, but his performance in the tournament—and his record-breaking feats—have already made him a talking point in domestic cricket.
Following the ceremony, Vaibhav is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a meeting expected to further encourage his burgeoning cricket career.
