Patna: Passengers at several smaller railway stations in Bihar will soon have access to real-time train updates and coach positioning, as part of a major infrastructure upgrade by the Danapur Railway Division.
In a move to improve passenger convenience, the Indian Railways has announced the installation of large-screen electronic display boards and coach guidance systems at a dozen stations across the division. The initiative mirrors facilities already available at Patna Junction and Danapur stations.
The stations set to benefit include Bihiya, Raghunathpur, Dumraon, Dildarnagar, Jamui, Jehanabad, Rajgir, Bihar Sharif, Fatuha, Barh, Bakhtiyarpur, and Taregana. These stations will receive large display units at their entrances, capable of showing arrival, departure and platform numbers for up to five trains simultaneously.
The new system will be integrated with the National Train Inquiry System (NTES), enabling passengers to receive accurate and real-time updates. Platform number 1 at each station will also be equipped with coach guidance indicators, helping travellers locate their reserved coaches more easily.
In addition, three display boards will be mounted on foot overbridges at each station, with more to be placed directly on platforms to provide platform-specific information. The entire upgrade project is estimated to cost around Rs 5 crores.
