Patna: The way has been cleared for Bihar to host national and international level cricket matches, with the state cabinet approving the transfer of the newly built international cricket stadium in Rajgir to the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) for maintenance and operations.
The decision, taken in Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, means the BCA, which is affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), will now be responsible for organising domestic and international matches at the venue.
Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department, Arvind Kumar Chaudhary, said the handover of the State Sports Academy-cum-International Cricket Stadium would allow Bihar to expand its sporting presence on a larger scale. “Now, national and international level cricket matches can be organised in this stadium,” he said.
In addition, the cabinet approved Rs 574,33,90,000 for the acquisition of 100 acres of land in Dumri, Punpun, for the development of a sports complex. Officials said the move would accelerate the creation of quality sports infrastructure and provide young athletes with enhanced training facilities.
The cabinet also approved new measures for player welfare. Under the Direct Appointment Rules of Bihar Outstanding Players, 2023, athletes will now be eligible for state government jobs based on their performance and achievements. Each year, 5 male and 5 female players from Bihar will be recruited into government service across different sporting disciplines.
Officials said these decisions reflect the state’s broader ambition to strengthen its sports ecosystem and create more opportunities for young talent to compete at the highest level.
