Patna: Bihar recorded its highest-ever electricity consumption on June 18, 2026, when peak power demand touched 8,874 MW at 9:05 PM, according to the Energy Department.
Officials said the entire demand was met in real time, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply across urban and rural regions of the state.
Record Demand Reflects Rising Consumption
The Energy Department described the milestone as a reflection of Bihar’s growing energy needs, driven by economic activity and improving household consumption patterns.
Despite the sharp rise in demand, authorities stated that the power system remained stable due to strengthened generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure.
Supply Maintained Across All Regions
Officials confirmed that consumers did not face major disruptions even during peak load conditions.
According to the department, coordinated operation of all power units helped maintain stable supply across Bihar’s grid.
Statement From Energy Department Leadership
Energy Secretary-cum-Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited (BSPHCL), Ajay Yadav (IAS), said the rising demand indicates ongoing economic growth and improved living standards.
He said the department’s teams ensured uninterrupted supply even at record demand levels, calling it the result of sustained efforts by engineers and field staff.
He also added that electricity demand is expected to rise further in the coming years, and the department is prepared to meet future requirements through ongoing capacity and infrastructure improvements.
