Patna: The Bihar Road Construction Department has announced a tougher stance on road quality, with senior officials ordering immediate, large-scale inspections across the state. During a high-level meeting held in Patna on February 16, Department Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal told a flying squad team that the government would adopt a “zero tolerance” approach towards poor construction standards and delays.

According to the department, the move comes in response to growing public complaints over road conditions and concerns about the durability of newly built infrastructure. Pankaj Pal said inspections must be carried out with full transparency and without influence from contractors or other external pressures. The flying squad teams have been instructed to examine key aspects such as material quality, road thickness, drainage design and adherence to approved engineering plans.

Officials warned that any evidence of irregularities — including use of substandard materials, deviations from design specifications or missed deadlines — would invite immediate departmental and legal action. The department said that accountability mechanisms would be strengthened to ensure that both contractors and supervising agencies maintain high standards throughout the construction process.

Inspection drives are set to begin immediately across major road networks in Bihar, including routes in Bettiah, Araria, Kochas and Supaul. The department said the effort is aimed not only at improving current projects but also at ensuring long-term maintenance and timely completion of future works. The announcement signals a stronger emphasis on infrastructure quality as the state seeks to address public concerns and improve road connectivity.
