Patna: The Central Bureau of Investigation has intensified its inquiry into the death of a NEET aspirant in Bihar, questioning a woman sub-inspector for several hours and widening its scrutiny to other police personnel involved in the initial investigation.
Officers from the federal agency visited the student’s family home in Jehanabad on Sunday, where they gathered statements and reviewed details surrounding the circumstances of her death. Later, Sub-Inspector Reena Kumari, posted at Chitragupta Nagar police station in Patna, was summoned to the CBI’s local office for prolonged questioning.
According to officials familiar with the developments, investigators are examining whether there were lapses in the preliminary inquiry conducted by local police. The CBI is seeking to establish whether due procedure was followed in securing the scene, collecting and preserving evidence, and preparing the case diary.
During the interrogation, the sub-inspector was asked to provide a detailed account of the timeline of events, including when officers first reached the scene, how evidence was handled, and how witness statements were recorded. Investigators are also assessing whether any irregularities occurred in the documentation of the case.
Sources said the agency is exploring the possibility of attempts to influence or alter the direction of the investigation, though no official statement has yet been issued by the CBI on this aspect.
The scope of the inquiry appears to be expanding. Several officers from Kadamkuan and Chitragupta Nagar police stations are reportedly under scrutiny and may be called in for questioning in the coming days.
The death of the NEET aspirant has been regarded as a sensitive and controversial case since it first came to light. The CBI is now examining whether the circumstances point to broader connections, including the potential involvement of organised groups.
The extended questioning of the sub-inspector is being viewed by observers as a significant development that could influence the direction of the investigation.
