Patna: Authorities in Patna have uncovered a major drug operation in the city’s Ramakrishna Nagar area, seizing injections, codeine cough syrup, and banned tablets valued at around Rs 1.9 million.
The raid, conducted on Monday night under the supervision of Assistant Drug Controller Chunendra Mahato, targeted a warehouse in Ashochak Chakariyapur, part of the Ramakrishna Nagar police station jurisdiction. A factory in the area had previously been sealed as part of ongoing investigations.
Officials reported that the drugs were stored in the lower section of a residential property. Preliminary inquiries suggest that the network operated using forged and irregular documents, with supplies reportedly distributed from Patna to districts including Bettiah, Katihar, Purnia, Motihari, and Darbhanga. Investigators are also exploring possible interstate and international connections.
Two men, Animesh Kumar and Rohit Kumar, have been named in an FIR filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police have identified several other suspects and ongoing raids are underway to apprehend them.
The operation was carried out by Drug Inspectors Jitendra Kumar, Yashwant Jha, Kayamuddin Ansari, and Sweta Singh, among other officers. Authorities emphasised that the crackdown is part of a broader campaign to curb drug abuse and illegal trade in the region, with intensified efforts to locate the network’s mastermind.
