Patna: The Bihar government’s road construction secretary has carried out a site inspection of several major highway and urban road projects in Nalanda district, underlining the state’s focus on improving connectivity and easing traffic bottlenecks in the region.
Pankaj Kumar Pal, secretary of the road construction department, reviewed projects being implemented by the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) and the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL). Officials said the inspection focused on progress, quality of construction and obstacles affecting timelines.

Among the key projects reviewed was the construction of a two-lane railway overbridge near Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College, which has a targeted completion date of March 2026.
Pal also inspected work on a 26.66km greenfield four-lane highway on National Highway-82, running from Salepur to Rajgir. The route, intended to connect major destinations on the Buddhist circuit, is expected to improve access between Patna and Rajgir while boosting tourism in Nalanda district.

Other projects include a 7.4km road linking Rajgir Sports Complex to Indo Hokke Hotel, aimed at easing congestion during large sporting and cultural events, and an 8km four-lane road from Kargil Chowk to Pachasa Mod, announced during the government’s Vikas Yatra outreach programme.
Work is also under way on the widening and strengthening of a 22.17km stretch from Nursarai to Silao Begampur, which includes the construction of five bypasses. Officials said the project would not require displacement of local residents. The inspection additionally covered the 7.07km-long Hilsa East bypass, which includes two railway overbridges, and the Ban Ganga–Jethian–Gahlaur–Bhindas road, a key NH-82 project linking Nalanda with Nawada and Gaya districts.

During the visit, Pal directed officials to address land acquisition issues and submit detailed reports on pending obstacles to ensure projects are completed on schedule and to the required standards. He said the completion of these road projects would create new opportunities for trade, tourism and employment, and help drive wider development in the district.
