Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched an intensive campaign to clean and desilt all major drains in the city by January 31, in preparation for the Swachh Survekshan 2025-26 survey and the upcoming monsoon season.
Under the plan, drain cleaning work begins daily at 7:00am, with specially constituted teams overseeing the operation. The teams include Chief Sanitation Inspectors, City Managers, Junior Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Executive Officers, who will monitor progress, coordinate activities, and ensure work quality.
Major drains targeted under the programme include Saidpur, Anandpuri, Kurji/Rajiv Nagar, Mandir, Serpentine, Bakarganj, Bypass, Yogipur, and City Mot drains.
The municipal administration has introduced a multi-layered monitoring system to maintain the pace of work. Any issues encountered at the zonal level are to be promptly escalated to the Executive Officer and, if unresolved, to municipal headquarters. The Municipal Commissioner has emphasised that completing the drain cleaning within the stipulated timeframe is a top priority.
This move comes as part of PMC’s broader efforts to improve urban sanitation ahead of the national cleanliness survey and to mitigate the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon.
