Patna: The Bihar government has urged its officials to accelerate the implementation of welfare schemes for Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), as part of a state-level review chaired by the Minister of the SC/ST Welfare Department, Lakhendra Kumar Roshan.
Speaking at the meeting, Roshan highlighted the need for all government benefits, including scholarships, residential schools, hostels, and employment schemes, to reach eligible beneficiaries without delay. “People from SC and ST communities have historically faced social and economic marginalisation. Ensuring timely delivery of welfare schemes must be the department’s priority,” he said.
The minister commended districts that had successfully implemented departmental initiatives, while warning those lagging behind to expedite progress. Officials were instructed to prepare lists of community halls, public toilets, and landless families in SC/ST settlements, and to report on the condition of existing facilities within 15 days.

Director of the department, Priyanka Rani, also emphasised the need for quality oversight in construction and renovation projects, particularly in Dr. Ambedkar hostels that provide accommodation and educational support for SC students. Attention was further drawn to schools and colleges run by self-help groups, and pre-examination training centres aimed at preparing students for competitive government exams.
The meeting highlighted a recent allocation of Rs 30 crore for the development of the Tharu community, reflecting the government’s focus on targeted initiatives. Officials were instructed to maintain transparency and prioritise pending proposals to ensure budgets are effectively utilised.
Attendees included Mission Director of the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission, Gautam Paswan, Special Duty Officer Diwan Jafar Hussain Khan, Deputy Directors, District Welfare Officers, and other officials from across the state.
