Patna: The Bihar government has granted administrative approval for a range of urban road and drainage projects across five districts of the Munger division, officials said on Friday, marking a significant push to improve civic infrastructure in the region.
Avneesh Kumar Singh, the divisional commissioner of Munger, said the projects have been sanctioned under the state’s comprehensive urban development scheme and will be implemented in the municipal areas of Munger, Lakhisarai, Begusarai, Jamui and Khagaria districts.
Once completed, the projects are expected to improve road connectivity in urban neighbourhoods and reduce waterlogging, a persistent problem during the monsoon season. Officials said construction work would begin soon.
In Munger municipal corporation, several road projects have received approval, including a key stretch connecting Chandika Sthan via Bhatt Toli to Veer Kunwar Singh Colony, at an estimated cost of over Rs. 1.53 crore. Another concrete road project in ward 44, linking Hathiya Thakur Bindwara to Mahdipur Road via Sharma Toli, has been approved at a cost of more than Rs. 1.11 crore.
In Jamalpur municipal council, new roads will be constructed in Lakshmanpur and Chhoti Dariyapur, with a combined sanctioned cost exceeding Rs. 3.5 crore. Jamui municipality has also received approval for a road connecting the women’s college to the Baba Bhuteshwar Nath temple.
Lakhisarai municipal council will see multiple road and drainage projects in ward 17, including covered drains and concrete roads connecting residential areas to the bypass. In Khagaria district, approvals include drainage construction in Gogri Jamalpur and Mansi, as well as the renovation and development of Mushkipur Park.
Begusarai district has also been allocated funds for road, drainage and pond renovation projects in its municipal corporation and council areas.
The divisional commissioner directed executing agencies to ensure that all works are completed within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with prescribed quality standards, warning that negligence would not be tolerated.
