Patna: Bihar government schools will provide instruction for Classes 1 to 5 in Hindi as well as regional languages, including Magahi, Maithili, Bhojpuri and Angika, according to local requirements.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari issued the directive during a review meeting of the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) on Tuesday.
The minister also directed officials to expedite the filling of vacant posts at SCERT, with a formal requisition to be sent to the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).
SCERT Asked To Promote Innovation
While reviewing the functioning of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs), Tiwari directed officials to study SCERT models in other states and develop an innovation-focused approach to education.
He also asked officials to visit schools regularly to understand conditions at the ground level and assess the implementation of education programmes.
The minister stressed that school cleanliness drives should be turned into a wider public movement involving students and their families.
Cleanliness And Health Awareness On No Bag Day
Tiwari directed schools to use Saturdays designated as “No Bag Day” to educate students about cleanliness and the prevention of Hepatitis B.
He said the message should reach families through Bihar’s approximately two crore schoolchildren.
The minister also directed schools to regularly sing “Vande Mataram” and “Jana Gana Mana”.
A special training programme for teacher trainers will be organised in Patna in August, with the aim of improving the quality of teacher training.
Focus On Sanskrit And Skill Development
Tiwari expressed concern over the current state of Sanskrit education and directed officials to strengthen the subject in Bihar.
He said efforts should be made to ensure students can access quality Sanskrit education within the state.
The minister also called for greater attention to skill development among students in Classes 6 to 8.
Guidebooks And Supplementary Materials Prepared
Officials informed the meeting that guidebooks have been prepared on teacher professional development, arts and sports, libraries, ICT labs and ISM labs.
Supplementary books have also been developed for students in Classes 6 to 8.
Special Secretary of the Education Department Dharmendra Kumar and SCERT Director Yatendra Kumar Pal, along with other officials, attended the review meeting.
