Patna: The Bihar government has granted administrative approval for a Rs 239.33 crore project to widen and strengthen the 44-km Bhagalpur-Amarpur-Banka stretch of State Highway-25 (SH-25). According to the Road Construction Department, work is expected to begin in October after the completion of the tender process.
The project will upgrade the existing road into a two-lane highway with paved shoulders, aiming to improve connectivity, road safety and traffic flow between Bhagalpur and Banka districts.
What Has Been Approved?
The Road Construction Department has approved the SH-25 project under the Pragati Yatra scheme.
Officials said the project will be implemented across the Bhagalpur and Banka road divisions, with the Bihar State Road Development Corporation Limited (BSRDCL) responsible for executing the work.
Two-Lane Road with Paved Shoulders
According to the department, the upgraded highway will include paved shoulders on both sides, providing additional space for pedestrians, cyclists and slow-moving vehicles.
Officials said the design is expected to improve traffic movement and reduce the risk of accidents along the corridor.
Tender Process to Begin
Following administrative approval, the department will begin the tender process to appoint a construction agency.
BSRDCL will oversee the implementation of the project once the contract is awarded.
Completion Target Set for 2028
The Road Construction Department has set 2028 as the target for completing the highway upgrade.
Once completed, the project is expected to reduce travel time and improve transport for both passenger and commercial vehicles.
Why SH-25 Is Important
The Bhagalpur-Amarpur-Banka State Highway-25 serves as a key transport corridor connecting parts of Bihar with neighbouring Jharkhand.
It is widely used for daily commuting as well as the movement of goods and commercial traffic.
Several important markets and commercial centres, including Gurhatta Chowk, Goradih, Tamauni Mor, Simariya, Kajraili, Andhari, Ratanganj, Kulhariya, Dumrama, Amarpur, English Mor and Samukhiya, are located along the route.
According to the department, widening the highway is expected to ease congestion and improve traffic flow through these areas.
