Muzaffarpur: Households in Muzaffarpur who use more than 125 units of electricity every month may soon have nothing to pay. The Bihar government is launching a new plan that can reduce their bills to zero. This has been made possible under the Har Ghar Free Solar Panel Scheme.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shared this information during a recent electricity consumer dialogue programme. He said that people who are currently getting 125 units of free electricity from the state government can also avoid paying for any extra units. For this, they will need to install solar panels on their homes. Whatever electricity is used above 125 units will be covered by the solar energy, meaning there will be no extra charges.
After the CM’s announcement, the Energy Department has directed officials across Bihar to start work quickly. In Muzaffarpur, the Electrical Superintendent Engineer has already called a meeting with all division engineers to discuss how the scheme will be implemented. The work will start from city areas first.
The engineers have been instructed to install solar panels in at least five houses every month and create awareness among local residents. They will survey houses, explain the benefits of solar energy, and guide people on how to apply for the scheme. If someone does not know where to apply, the department will help them with the process.
The Bihar government is already providing 125 units of free electricity every month to around 1.67 crore families in the state. However, many households still end up paying for extra electricity if they use more than the free limit. With the Har Ghar Free Solar Panel Scheme, even those extra units can become free, bringing great relief to consumers and encouraging them to switch to clean energy.
