Patna: Music and hobbies are not just sources of joy but also powerful tools for maintaining good health, according to Dr Diwakar Tejaswi, medical director and senior physician at Public Awareness for Healthy Approach for Living (PAHAL).
Speaking at the musical programme Safar held at the Krishna Science Center near Gandhi Maidan, Tejaswi urged people to keep their hobbies alive to improve both physical and mental wellbeing. “Hobbies like singing, playing, dancing, gardening, painting, reading, writing and cooking refresh both body and mind. These not only reduce stress but also improve mental and physical health,” he said.
Citing evidence-based studies, Tejaswi explained that listening to music or humming helps regulate blood pressure and heart rate. Research has also shown that music stimulates the release of “happy hormones” such as dopamine and serotonin, reducing depression and anxiety. Activities like singing and dancing, he added, can sharpen memory, improve concentration and enhance sleep quality.
He concluded by encouraging people to embrace laughter and creativity as everyday practices. “Keep any of your hobbies alive, laugh out loud and enjoy life. This is the simplest secret of a long and healthy life,” he said.
