Patna: The Election Commission’s special intensive revision of the electoral roll in Bihar has gained momentum ahead of the upcoming state assembly elections. In a review meeting held at Kanya Madhya Vidyalaya on Tuesday, District Election Officer and District Magistrate assessed the pace and compliance of the process, emphasising the importance of a clean and inclusive voter list.
According to officials, the revision campaign aims to ensure that all eligible citizens are included while removing names of deceased, migrated, or absent voters. The door-to-door verification drive will take place between June 25 and July 26, using July 1 as the cut-off date for eligibility. A draft electoral roll will be published on August 1, and the window for claims and objections will remain open until September 1. The final list is scheduled for release on September 30 and will be shared with all recognised political parties as well as published on the official websites of the Election Commission of India (ECI) and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar.
Significantly, the process has been simplified for a subset of voters. Citizens who were part of the last intensive revision held in 2003 — which used January 1,2003 as the eligibility date — will not be required to submit documents during the current revision. These voters must only confirm their existing entries and submit the enumeration form.
Additionally, individuals whose mother or father were listed in the electoral roll as of January 2003 will also be exempt from providing documentary proof, regardless of their own birth date.
However, officials stressed that voters failing to submit the enumeration form on time will not be included in the draft list. They will still be able to register during the claims and objections period using Form-6 along with a declaration. The form can be accessed online via eci.gov.in or through the ECINet mobile app by entering the EPIC number.
District authorities have warned of strict action against Booth Level Officers (BLOs) found negligent in their duties. FIRs are being filed and disciplinary steps are underway against defaulters. For assistance, voters can contact the district helpline at the toll-free number 1950.
