Patna: The Bihar Sugarcane Industry Department has said that sugar mills in the state have paid 99.14% of the dues owed to farmers for sugarcane procured during the 2025-26 crushing season.
According to the department, 10 operational sugar mills purchased a total of 572.66 lakh quintals of sugarcane from farmers till April 9 this year.
The total payable amount for the procured sugarcane stood at Rs. 2,13,783.58 crore. Of this, mills have so far paid Rs. 2,11,481.43 crore to farmers.
Department monitored payment process
Officials said the department had instructed all sugar mill operators to ensure timely payment to farmers from the beginning of cane procurement operations.
The department added that it continuously monitored payments made to sugarcane farmers throughout the crushing season to prevent delays in disbursal.
Action underway for remaining dues
According to officials, sugar mill operators cooperated in expediting payments, resulting in the clearance of 99.14% of the total dues.
The department said efforts are continuing to ensure payment of the remaining outstanding amount to farmers.
