Patna: Three officers from the Bihar Revenue Service have been suspended as the state government steps up its response to an ongoing strike, with the deputy chief minister warning of firm action against those disrupting official work.
Vijay Kumar Sinha, who also oversees the revenue and land reforms department, said the suspensions were part of efforts to enforce discipline within the administration. He added that while officers who return to duty promptly would not face punitive action, those engaging in indiscipline, obstructing government work or issuing misleading statements would be dealt with strictly.
The suspended officials have been identified as Jitendra Pandey, an additional district land acquisition officer in Araria; Rajnikant, a circle officer in Patna Sadar; and Anand Kumar, a circle officer in Ghorasahan in East Champaran.
Sinha said around half of the state’s revenue officers remained on duty, citing reports submitted by district magistrates and additional collectors. He described the suspensions as necessary to maintain administrative order during the disruption.
The department is also overseeing preparations for the upcoming census exercise, with the self-enumeration phase scheduled to begin on April 17. Officials said awareness campaigns linked to the process are already under way.
Sinha warned that any attempt to defy government directives or hinder official proceedings would invite strict consequences.
Separately, the government has ordered an inquiry into the conduct of former revenue officer Aditya Shivam Shankar, who recently resigned from service. A three-member committee has been formed to investigate the matter, chaired by Mahendra Pal and comprising Mona Jha and Nawazish Akhtar.
