Patna: Bihar’s state and central tax authorities held a State Co-ordination Committee meeting on Wednesday to discuss ways to increase tax revenue, strengthen compliance and improve coordination between different tax administrations.
The meeting was jointly chaired by Sanjay Kumar Singh, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Commercial Taxes Department, Bihar, and Vijay Kumar Singh, Commissioner, CGST & CX, Patna-1.
Senior officials from the CGST & CX Patna-1, Bihar Commercial Taxes Department, Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI), Income Tax Department and East Central Railway (ECR), Danapur Division, among others, attended the meeting.
Focus on revenue growth and information sharing
Officials discussed potential areas for increasing revenue and stressed the need for better coordination in sharing information and resources among the departments.
The meeting also covered issues involving different categories of taxpayers falling under the respective jurisdictions of the state and central tax administrations.
GSTR-3B filing, auto-registration and pending revenue
Special attention was given to challenges related to auto-registration, timely filing of GSTR-3B returns and measures to unlock pending revenue.
Officials also discussed ways to improve overall tax compliance and strengthen the mechanisms used by tax authorities to identify and address gaps.
Sector-specific strategy to address revenue gaps
The officials also discussed developing sector-specific strategies to reduce gaps in revenue collection across different sectors.
The real estate sector was taken up as a case study for examining the sectoral revenue gap and identifying issues that could be addressed through coordinated action.
Railways, enforcement and income tax issues discussed
The agenda also included discussions on inter-departmental cooperation, tax and revenue-related issues concerning the Railways, enforcement matters and issues related to the Income Tax Department.
The meeting brought together senior officials from CGST and SGST, DGGI, Income Tax and ECR Danapur Division, along with senior officers of the Bihar Commercial Taxes Department.
The meeting was aimed at improving revenue collection through a coordinated approach to tax administration, effective enforcement and better taxpayer compliance.
