Patna: Bihar Education Minister, Sunil Kumar, has defended the state’s ongoing teacher transfer and posting exercise, saying the guidelines were “completely transparent” and that most applicants had been given due consideration. His remarks come amid renewed scrutiny and complaints from teachers over recent transfers across government schools.
The Minister told reporters that transfers were carried out strictly according to the needs of individual schools. “Certain considerations are necessary during transfers, and these were taken into account,” he said, adding that ensuring mandatory postings in remote schools was part of the department’s responsibility. He also said that care had been taken not to disturb the existing student–teacher ratio.
The minister noted that the Chief Minister had directed the department to prioritise timely examinations and improve the overall quality of government schools. He said significant steps were also being taken to strengthen higher education and bring university academic calendars back on schedule.
The state is preparing for a large round of teacher postings, with 22,732 teachers expected to receive new placements by December 31. Orders will be issued in phases beginning on December 16, and teachers will be required to join their newly allotted schools within the stipulated timeframe. Officials have described the move as a “New Year gift” for teachers who have been waiting for months.
Teachers recruited under TRE-1 and TRE-2 were allowed to choose three preferred districts, and 41,684 applicants reportedly submitted their choices. The long-awaited process is now nearing completion, with many expecting their new postings to be confirmed within weeks.
Despite the minister’s reassurances, concerns remain among some teaching staff regarding the fairness of allocations and the challenges of working in remote locations. The department, however, maintains that the exercise is essential to addressing uneven staffing and improving learning outcomes across Bihar’s schools.
