Patna: Teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi created history on Tuesday by scoring his first domestic cricket century in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The young batter, playing for Bihar against Maharashtra, showcased remarkable talent and confidence as he remained unbeaten on 108 runs in 61 balls, hammering seven fours and seven sixes. His fearless approach gave Bihar’s innings a strong foundation and immediately grabbed attention across the domestic circuit.
Vaibhav reached his century in grand style by hitting a stunning six off Maharashtra bowler Arshin Kulkarni. The moment electrified the stadium and became the highlight of the match. Along with Ayush Loharuka, Vaibhav put up a 75-run partnership for the fourth wicket, ensuring that the team maintained its scoring momentum throughout the innings. Bihar eventually posted 176 runs in 20 overs, with Vaibhav’s innings standing out as the biggest contribution.
The performance drew an emotional and appreciative response from Bihar Cricket Association President Harsh Vardhan. Congratulating the youngster, he said that Vaibhav’s confidence and discipline at such a young age are truly remarkable. He called the achievement a matter of great pride for Bihar cricket and expressed hope that Vaibhav will continue to deliver impactful performances in upcoming tournaments while making the state and the country proud.
This century has further strengthened Vaibhav’s reputation as one of India’s most exciting young cricketers. He already has an IPL century and a 144-run knock in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament to his name, and now he becomes the youngest player ever to score a century in SMAT. With the Under-19 Asia Cup beginning on December 12 in Dubai, this performance is expected to boost his confidence even more. For fans and selectors alike, Vaibhav’s rise is a sign that Indian cricket’s future continues to get stronger.
