Patna: Authorities in Bihar have uncovered widespread fraud in the state’s teacher recruitment process, with 2,912 certificates found to be fake during a verification drive of appointed teachers.
The Vigilance Investigation Bureau, which is leading the probe, has registered 1,707 First Information Reports (FIRs) in connection with the fraudulent documents as of November 30, 2025.
According to the bureau, the verification of original educational certificates for 646,796 teachers has been completed. The process is reviewed monthly to ensure strict compliance and prevent any lapses.
In 2025 alone, 126 new FIRs were filed across various districts. The highest number of cases—21—were reported in March, followed by 16 in January and 15 in November. Investigations have revealed networks that have allegedly been facilitating government jobs through fake degrees for several years.
Officials have warned that teachers found to have secured employment through fraudulent certificates could face dismissal once the investigations are concluded. The vigilance inquiry is ongoing, and the number of identified fake certificates may rise as further checks are completed.
