Patna: Amid growing discontent among teachers over recent transfers by the Education Department, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday assured that the government is actively addressing their concerns and will introduce a more flexible system for inter-district postings.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the CM stated that suggestions and grievances are being received from various quarters regarding the recent teacher transfers. In response, he has directed the Education Department to allow affected teachers to choose three preferred districts for transfer. Based on these preferences, the department will make efforts to post them accordingly.
“Teachers who have problems regarding inter-district transfer will be asked to choose three districts, after which they will be posted in those districts only,” Kumar posted.
District-Level Committees to Handle Intra-District Transfers
To address the issue of placements within districts, the CM added that a committee headed by the District Magistrate (DM) will manage the posting process. The aim is to accommodate teachers as close to their desired blocks as possible, minimizing personal and logistical difficulties.
Appeal for Cooperation and Focus on Students’ Education
Recognizing the critical role educators play in shaping the future of Bihar’s children, Kumar urged teachers not to worry and to remain committed to their responsibilities.

“Teachers are very important for the future of children. Hence, my humble request would be that they should not worry about this but work diligently for the education of children in Bihar,” he added.
The statement comes amid increasing pressure from teacher unions and civil society groups, who have raised concerns about the lack of transparency and hardships caused by the mass transfers initiated last month.
Background
The Bihar Education Department had recently carried out a large-scale inter-district and intra-district transfer of teachers under its new rationalisation policy. While the move aimed to ensure balanced teacher-student ratios and improve education quality across the state, many teachers have alleged that the process lacked clarity and ignored personal hardships such as long-distance relocations, family responsibilities, and medical conditions.
