Patna: The Bihar government, led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, held an important cabinet meeting on Tuesday at the old secretariat in Patna. A total of 20 major proposals were approved in this meeting, aiming to improve transport, jobs, agriculture, and public services in the state. All cabinet ministers were present during the meeting.
One of the key decisions was to build small airports in six districts—Madhubani, Veerpur, Munger, Valmikinagar, Muzaffarpur, and Saharsa. Each of these airports will cost around Rs 150 crore and will be developed under the central government’s UDAN scheme. An agreement has already been signed between the Airports Authority of India and the Bihar government to begin the work.
Another big announcement was the plan to build a new five-star hotel in place of the old Hotel Pataliputra Ashok in Patna. This project will be carried out by a private company under a 60-year lease, which may be extended for 30 more years. The aim is to boost tourism and provide better facilities in the capital.
The cabinet also approved job opportunities in the education and sports departments. Appointments for school librarians and attendants will be made soon. Half of these jobs will be given on compassionate grounds, and the rest through regular recruitment. Retired soldiers serving in Bihar Police will continue their service until 2026. Support prices for crops like gram, lentils, and mustard were also fixed. Additionally, the government will spend over Rs 2.5 crore to study five major rivers to help farmers in drought-hit areas.
