Patna: The Bihar cabinet has approved a proposal to give 125 units of free electricity to domestic consumers. This decision was taken in a cabinet meeting held on Friday under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The scheme is called the CM Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayak Yojana and will start from 1 August.
Under this scheme, people will not have to pay their July electricity bills which are due from August onwards. Around one crore 86 lakh households will benefit from this decision. The government has kept a budget of Rs 3797 crore for the year 2025-26 to implement this scheme.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that his government has always tried to provide electricity at cheap rates to the people. Now, from the July bill, all domestic consumers will get 125 units of electricity free every month. The government is also planning to install solar power plants on the rooftops of houses in the next three years, and the cost for poor families will be fully covered.
This is the first time in Bihar that people will get 125 units of free electricity. The government is also discussing what the rate per unit will be after 125 units.
