Patna: The Bihar government has launched a two-day training programme to improve the quality of construction of block-cum-circle office buildings across the state. The programme began on Friday at the Convention Hall in Patna and was organised by the Building Construction Department. Engineers, contractors and site engineers from the North Bihar sub-division took part in the first day of the training. The focus of the programme is to make sure that government buildings are safe, durable and completed within the given time.
The training was inaugurated by Kumar Ravi, secretary of the Building Construction Department. Addressing the participants, he stressed the importance of following technical standards in every stage of construction. He made it clear that the government will not tolerate delays or poor-quality work. Engineers and contractors were instructed to complete projects on time and maintain high construction standards. He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found negligent in their duties.
Kumar Ravi also highlighted the need for proper supervision at construction sites. He said that the presence of a site engineer at every project location is mandatory to ensure quality work. According to officials, regular monitoring can help prevent mistakes and reduce the risk of future damage to buildings. The department said similar training programmes will be organised in the future so that engineers and contractors remain updated on best practices and government expectations.
During the training sessions, senior officers and experienced engineers of the department guided participants on important technical subjects. These included architectural and structural design, electrical fittings, proper execution of work and quality control measures. The sessions were designed to be practical and easy to understand, so that participants can apply the learning directly at construction sites.
The state government is undertaking large-scale construction work under this programme. New block-cum-circle office buildings are being built in 240 blocks where old buildings are in poor condition or cannot be repaired. In addition, full office and residential complexes are being constructed in 59 blocks that currently do not have such facilities. For each new office and residential complex, Rs 30,74,17,000 has been sanctioned, while Rs 16,62,10,000 per block has been approved for replacing old office buildings.
The new buildings will include offices for the Block Development Officer and Circle Officer, along with other block-level officials. Facilities such as a modern conference hall, RTPS counter, canteen and record room will also be provided. In complexes with residential facilities, houses will be built for officers and staff. Solar panels will be installed on the rooftops to save electricity and reduce power costs.
The training programme will continue until January 11. On the final day, engineers and contractors from the South Bihar and Patna sub-divisions will take part. Senior officials of the department, including top engineers and monitoring officers, were present at the event, showing the government’s focus on improving the quality of public infrastructure in Bihar.
