Patna: The Bihar transport department has promoted 17 officials to the post of District Transport Officer (DTO) in a long-pending administrative restructuring aimed at strengthening district-level operations.
An official notification issued on Tuesday confirmed the promotion of 12 Additional District Transport Officers (ADTOs) and five Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs). The officers will now serve in the capacity of DTOs across various districts in the state.
The order is seen as part of efforts to streamline the functioning of the transport department, which is responsible for vehicle registration, licensing, and enforcement of transport regulations.
Officials said the move is expected to improve administrative efficiency and help reduce delays in routine services, including the clearance of pending applications related to driving licences and vehicle registrations.
The promotions are also intended to address vacancies and workload pressures at the district level, where DTO offices play a key role in implementing transport policies.
The department has previously faced criticism over delays in service delivery, with officials suggesting that the expanded cadre strength may help improve responsiveness and accountability.
