Patna: In a major push towards sustainable energy adoption, the Bihar government has approved the Bihar Urban Gas Distribution Policy, 2025, a roadmap to promote natural gas use in domestic, commercial, industrial, and transport sectors across the state.
The policy aligns with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Act, 2006, and supports the Government of India’s goal to increase the share of natural gas in the country’s energy mix from the current 6.2% to 15% by 2030.
Under the new framework, six City Gas Distribution (CGD) units will be responsible for rolling out infrastructure across all 38 districts. The plan includes the installation of approximately 30 lakh domestic piped natural gas (PNG) connections and 650 compressed natural gas (CNG) stations.
Officials said the policy is expected to attract private investment, reduce carbon emissions, and generate employment in the state. By encouraging the use of cleaner fuels, the initiative aims to improve air quality while strengthening Bihar’s green energy infrastructure.
A government spokesperson described the move as “a step towards realising the vision of a Green Bihar,” highlighting its potential to provide a safer, accessible, and environmentally sound energy alternative for citizens.
