Patna: The winter session of the 18th Bihar Legislative Assembly opened on Monday with scenes that few expected — gestures of warmth across political divides. What began as a routine oath-taking soon turned into a series of symbolic moments that sparked curiosity and quiet murmurs inside the House.
As Pro-tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav administered oaths to newly elected MLAs, the focus quickly shifted from procedure to politics.
Vijay Sinha Touches Nitish Kumar’s Feet; Tejashwi Steps Forward to Embrace Him
One of the most striking moments came when Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha touched the feet of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, seeking blessings moments after taking his oath. The gesture — steeped in political and cultural symbolism — added a dramatic pause to the otherwise formal proceedings.
Immediately after, Sinha turned toward the Opposition benches, where Tejashwi Yadav rose and embraced him, drawing smiles from across the House.
Earlier, Home Minister Samrat Chaudhary and Tejashwi shared a brief but warm handshake — a scene at odds with their bitter exchanges over the past months.
Nitish and Tejashwi, once allies and later adversaries, were also seen conversing in brief, light exchanges, their smiles hinting at a political tension that momentarily eased.
A MLA Arrives by Auto; BJP Veteran Performs His Ritual
Adding to the day’s colour, MLA Ajay Dangi arrived at the Assembly in an auto-rickshaw, a sight that quickly went viral on social media. Nearby, seasoned BJP leader Prem Kumar, an eight-time MLA, bowed in a traditional gesture before entering the House, continuing a practice he has followed for years.
Meanwhile, RJD MLA Bhai Virendra resumed the Opposition’s combative tone outside the chamber, alleging that the “government was formed by stolen votes” and vowing a strong, persistent opposition despite their reduced numbers.
