Patna: The convictions in cases registered by Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has increased to six times in the past 25 years, Vigilance Director General Jitendra Singh Gangwar said.
Stating that the Bureau has been getting convictions, DG said that earlier the average number of convictions achieved in 5.6 cases per year in the past 25 years whereas the number of convictions jumped to 30 last year (2025), he said exuding confidence that the number of convictions will be higher as convictions in 10 cases have been achieved, so far, this year.
The increase in number of convictions has been possible because of better monitoring, supervision and coordination between courts and prosecution besides identifying 100 out 120 cases for speeding up the trial, Gangwar told reporters here at a press conference held Vigilance office here.
He highlighted VIB’s achievements that it could achieve after the bifurcation in the year 2000 when Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar.
Development Commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh & Gangwar- who was accompanied by Vigilance IG Garima Malik, DIGs Rakesh Ranjan & Mrityunjay Kumar- jointly gave away certificate of appreciation to children of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bailey Road, Patna who participated at painting and slogan competition.
Singh and Gangwar also gave away certificates to Vigilance staff for participating in a lecture on combating the menace of corruption.
These functions are being organised as part of ‘Bihar Vigilance Awareness Day’ observed on July 2 and ‘Bihar Vigilance Awareness Week’ (July 2-8) which will come to an end on July 8.

VIB’S ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE PAST 25 YEARS
Highlighting the Bureau’s achievements over the past 25 years, Gangwar said that the average number of FIRs registered every year in the past 25 years stood at 72 but the number of FIRs increased to 122 in 2025. A total of 76 FIRs has been lodged so far this year (2026), he said adding that it used to take on an average 1.9 days in lodging an FIR in the past 25 years but it has now declined to 1.4 days in registering FIR in 2026.
Similarly, the average number of trap cases in past 25 years was 47 but it increased to 101 last year and 71 trap cases have been registered this year (2026) so far, he said adding that if the trend continues, it is projected that number of trap cases could go up to 142 by the end of December this year.
The Bureau has also seized Rs 102 crore properties amassed through corrupt means in different cases and the court confiscated properties worth Rs 32 crore, DG said.
It also examined the 6.7 lakh certificates of 3.5 lakh teachers appointed on contractual basis between 2006 and 2015, he said adding that the Bureau conducted probe inside and outside the state apart from going to Nepal for the purpose and approached 378 boards in the process. It also lodged 1830 FIRs in which 3035 persons have been named as accused, he added.
He said that the average number of FIRs lodged in Disproportionate Assets (DA) case was eight in the past 25 years but the number rose to 15 in 2025 and it further increased to 16 in the current year so far.

MORE POLICE STATION REQUIRED AT DIST LEVEL
Bureau has only one police station which is located in Patna, DG said while urging the government to set up at least a Vigilance Police Station or an Outpost (OP) at each district, Gangwar said adding that Vigilance office be opened at regional level such as Commissionery level. Vigilance has sent its proposal to the state government in this regard.

Gangwar said that Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has come a long way in its existence of 80 years as it got its “logo” today that will boost energy and give it a distinct institutional identity. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had on July 2 unveiled the logo on the inaugural day function of the week long ‘Bihar Satarkta Jagrukta Saptah’ that began in the state capital.
