Rohtas: Ranju Devi of Chapla village, Nauhatta block, had earlier told Rahul Gandhi that her and her family members’ names were missing from the draft voter list, a statement that went viral on social media. However, she later clarified that her ward secretary had instructed her to raise the complaint. After personally checking the draft voter list at the polling booth, Ranju confirmed that her name, along with her family’s, was present.
The controversy had triggered political uproar, with opposition parties accusing the government and the Election Commission of vote theft, while the Centre maintained that the process was transparent. The Election Commission had also sought an affidavit in response to allegations made during Opposition’s tour. Ranju’s admission has weakened the opposition’s claims.
