Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert across all 38 districts of Bihar on Wednesday, warning of heavy downpours, lightning and waterlogging in several regions.
According to the Meteorological Center, an orange alert has been issued for 20 districts where heavy rain is likely, while a yellow alert has been declared for 18 districts that may witness light to moderate showers. Lightning risk has been flagged for both zones.
Patna, Nalanda and Nawada experienced rainfall on Tuesday, bringing relief from intense heat. However, bright sunshine and humid conditions persisted in other parts of the state, causing discomfort to residents.
Monsoon to Intensify After August 21
Meteorological scientists have predicted that the monsoon will become active again after August 21, resulting in widespread heavy rainfall across Bihar. Northern districts including Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Purnia and Katihar are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain. Southern and western regions such as Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya and Kaimur may also witness good rainfall with thunder and lightning.
IMD Issues Safety Advisory
The IMD has cautioned that waterlogging may occur in low-lying areas, while kutcha houses and farmlands face potential damage. People are advised to step out only when necessary, avoid sheltering under trees or in open fields during thunderstorms, and take measures to safeguard crops.
District administrations have activated control rooms and placed emergency response teams on alert to tackle any untoward incidents arising from the rain and lightning strikes.
