Patna: Patna is set to see the construction of 23 new power substations in an effort to deliver round-the-clock electricity and end frequent tripping issues, officials have confirmed.
According to the Patna Electric Supply Undertaking (PESU), the expansion will increase the total number of substations in the city to 101, up from the current 78 serving about 7.5 lakh consumers. Four new substations—at Gola Road T-Point, Digha ITI, Karpuri Sadan and Chandravihar Colony—were added earlier this year.
Construction is already under way at seven sites, including Patna Collectorate, Kothwa, Gulzarbagh Press Club, Science City, Vijay Nagar, Nandlal Chhapra and Shriram School in Kankarbagh. The substations at Patna Collectorate, Science City, Vijay Nagar and Nandlal Chhapra are scheduled for completion by September 2025. Kothwa and Gulzarbagh Press Club are expected to be finished by December 2025, while the Kankarbagh facility is due by March 2026.
Work is also planned at 16 other locations, including Bihar Vidyapeeth, New Vidyut Bhawan, Bhagwatipur, Sipara IOCL Road, DPS Mor Khagaul, Usri, Danapur Block Office, and Pataliputra Sports Complex. Officials said land has already been identified for all the projects, and construction would begin shortly.
PESU officials said the expansion would bring significant relief to residents of the Bihar capital, with the long-promised goal of 24-hour uninterrupted power supply expected to be met once the new substations come online.
