Patna: Bihar is set to experience a surge in monsoon activity over the coming week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across 20 districts.
After weeks of stifling heat, parts of the state received relief late on Tuesday evening when heavy showers brought short-term respite. Patna recorded around 10mm of rainfall, though brief waterlogging was reported in low-lying areas.
The IMD has issued a warning of continued rainfall on Wednesday, with Purnia, Araria, and Kishanganj facing the risk of heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning. Winds are expected to gust at 30–40 km per hour in districts including Patna. Thursday is forecast to bring heavy rainfall to Banka, Katihar, Purnia, Rohtas, and Bhabua.
Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious over the next seven days. The IMD described the monsoon as “active again,” with its impact likely to be most severe in southern Bihar. An orange alert has been issued for 20 districts, and the state Disaster Management Department is closely monitoring the situation, advising people to venture outdoors only when necessary.
Daily forecasts indicate a continued pattern of heavy to very heavy rainfall: Bhabua, Rohtas, Banka, Purnia, and Katihar on August 21; Rohtas, Nalanda, Sheikhpura, and Munger on August 22; Begusarai, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Lakhisarai, Gaya, Jehanabad, Patna, and Aurangabad on August 23, with very heavy rainfall in Patna, Bhojpur, and Buxar; followed by widespread heavy rain across southern districts through August 25, with lighter showers expected in northern Bihar.
