Patna: With just two days remaining for the conclusion of the first phase of the intensive voter list revision campaign ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, the Election Commission (EC) announced on Thursday that approximately 99 percent of voters have been covered. Based on the provisional count, the names of over 60 lakh voters are confirmed for deletion from the electoral rolls, a figure that may yet increase. Additionally, 1 lakh voters could not be contacted during the door-to-door verification, and counting forms for another 7 lakh voters are still pending, with a deadline of Saturday for submission.
In a statement released on Thursday, the Election Commission detailed the breakdown of the deletions: 21.6 lakh voters have been identified as deceased, while 31.5 lakh voters have permanently migrated. Furthermore, 7 lakh voters were found to be registered at multiple locations. The cumulative total of these categories exceeds 60 lakh, ensuring their removal from the voter list.
Untraceable Voters and Ongoing Data Processing
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) reported that they were unable to establish contact with 1 lakh voters across the state. These individuals were not found at their registered addresses, and all efforts to reach them proved unsuccessful. The Commission has not yet clarified whether these 1 lakh untraceable voters will also face deletion from the electoral roll.
The Election Commission further stated that 7.21 crore voters in Bihar have so far completed and uploaded their counting forms online, representing 91.23 percent of the total electorate. The process of uploading the remaining forms is actively underway as the first phase of the revision draws to a close.
