Patna: The southwest monsoon is currently showing greater intensity over northern Bihar than in the south, with a cyclonic circulation extending from northwest Bihar through the Ganges coastal region of West Bengal to central Bangladesh.
The India Meteorological Department’s Patna centre has issued a red warning for very heavy rain at one or two locations in Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj within the next 24 hours. An orange warning has also been issued for heavy rain in East Champaran, West Champaran, Kaimur, Supaul, Madhepura and Buxar.
These areas are expected to see thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 30–40km/h. The department forecasts heavy rain with thunderstorms in various parts of north Bihar over the next six days, while maximum temperatures are likely to remain steady for at least five days.
On Thursday, Patna and surrounding areas experienced humid conditions as intermittent sunshine alternated with cloud cover. Rain was reported across several districts in the past 24 hours, with Nokha in Rohtas recording the state’s highest rainfall at 56.6mm. Other notable totals included 37.6mm in Dinara (Rohtas), 31.2mm in Kudra (Bhabua), 27.4mm in Rajauli (Nawada) and 24.8mm in Bausi (Banka).
Patna’s maximum temperature stood at 33.3°C and minimum at 27.8°C. Gaya recorded 33.4°C and 25.4°C, Bhagalpur 33.6°C and 27.6°C, while Muzaffarpur saw 32.0°C and 27.7°C.
