Patna: The India Meteorological Department’s Patna centre has issued a statewide alert warning of thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and possible hail over the next three to four days, as favourable weather systems intensify across the region.
According to the forecast issued on Monday evening, the interaction of a western disturbance with moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal has created unstable atmospheric conditions over Bihar and adjoining areas, increasing the likelihood of severe weather activity.
Peak activity expected on April 8–9
The IMD has indicated that weather activity is likely to intensify particularly on April 8 and 9, when thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds could be more severe.
Wind speeds are expected to reach 50–60 kmph, with isolated instances of hailstorms also likely in some districts.
The department has advised residents to remain alert, avoid open spaces during storms, and take shelter in safe locations during lightning events.

Advisory for residents and farmers
Authorities have urged people to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions, particularly avoiding trees and electric poles during lightning strikes.
Farmers have been advised to harvest ready crops promptly and ensure safe storage to minimise potential losses from rain and hail. Standing crops should be covered or moved to protected areas where possible.
Ongoing monitoring and updates
The meteorological centre in Patna has said that weather forecasts and alerts will be updated regularly, urging citizens to follow official advisories and plan daily and agricultural activities accordingly.
District-level warnings for the next four days have also been issued, as seen in the forecast maps released by the department, indicating varying alert levels across Bihar.
Officials said the evolving weather pattern could bring temporary relief from heat, but also carries risks associated with lightning and strong winds, requiring heightened vigilance across the state.
