Rajgir: Tourists planning to visit Rajgir have been advised that the ropeway service to Ratnagiri Hill will remain suspended from April 8 to April 20, 2026, due to scheduled technical maintenance and safety checks.
The ropeway, considered one of the oldest and most well-known aerial ropeways in India, connects the base of Ratnagiri Hill to the hilltop where the Vishwa Shanti Stupa is located. Authorities said the temporary suspension is necessary to ensure the system operates safely ahead of the upcoming Malmas Mela, which is expected to attract a large number of pilgrims and tourists from across India and abroad.
Ropeway manager Deepak Kumar said the maintenance work is being carried out as a preventive measure to avoid any technical issues or accidents during the high footfall period. He explained that periodic inspection and servicing of machinery and cables are essential to maintain safety standards.
According to officials, the maintenance work, including inspection and repairs of cables and mechanical components, will be completed during the shutdown period. The ropeway service is scheduled to resume regular operations from April 21.
The Rajgir ropeway is a major attraction for visitors, offering convenient access to the hilltop shrine as well as panoramic views of the surrounding Magadh hills and the Pant Wildlife Sanctuary. For the convenience of tourists, modern 8-seater cabins (cable cars) are currently in operation on the route.
