Patna: The monsoon is weakening across Bihar, but residents are unlikely to find relief as humidity grips the state ahead of Durga Puja, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Bihar Meteorological Centre.
While light showers are forecast in parts of western Bihar and Seemanchal, districts including Patna, Gayaji, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur are expected to stay dry. Daytime temperatures could rise by two to four degrees, reaching 34–36°C, with high humidity levels making conditions uncomfortable.
In Bhagalpur, intermittent drizzle has lifted the festive atmosphere, but across central Bihar, residents are bracing for sticky conditions. Wind speeds may reach 50 km/h, though meteorologists warn this is unlikely to reduce humidity.
Rainfall is predicted to taper off by September 30 and October 1, with only sporadic drizzle along border areas. However, the IMD has said that the monsoon will revive from October 2, bringing heavy rain that could once again drench pandals and roads.
“The comfort level will remain very high for the next two days,” the Meteorological Centre noted, urging residents to prepare for both sweat and showers during the initial days of Navratri.
