Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for all 38 districts of Bihar on Sunday, August 2, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds, while forecasting heavy rainfall in parts of north Bihar.
Heavy rain warnings have been issued for Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj, where intense showers are expected over the next 24 hours.
Rain Continues In Bagaha; Strong Winds And Lightning Likely
Rainfall continued in Bagaha through the night into Sunday morning, while the IMD warned that wind speeds could reach 40 kmph in several districts.
The department has also cautioned residents about the risk of lightning strikes and advised people to avoid open areas during thunderstorms.
While north Bihar is expected to receive widespread rainfall, weather conditions in much of south Bihar are likely to remain comparatively stable, with cloudy skies and isolated light showers.
Monsoon Activity Expected To Strengthen
Meteorologists expect rainfall activity to increase gradually between August 2 and August 5, with the monsoon likely to strengthen further by August 5–6.
Heavy rain is expected to become more widespread across north Bihar from Sunday, while south Bihar is likely to witness increased monsoon activity later in the week.
Heat Followed By Evening Rain
Before the fresh spell of rain, several districts experienced hot and humid conditions on Saturday.
Kaimur recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 39.1°C, while Sheikhpura reached 38.4°C before heavy evening rain brought relief.
In Sheikhpura, nearly an hour of rainfall caused waterlogging in several parts of the town. Water reportedly accumulated up to three feet near the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office.
Heavy rain was also reported from Gopalganj, while cloudy conditions prevailed in districts including Nalanda.

Forecast For The Coming Days
August 3: Cloudy skies with intermittent light rain and thunderstorms are expected in Patna, Vaishali, Samastipur, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Munger, Bhagalpur, Banka, Jamui, Bhojpur and Buxar.
August 4: Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Arwal, Gaya, Nawada, Bhojpur, Buxar, Saran, Gopalganj and Siwan, while rainfall is expected to continue across parts of north-east Bihar.
August 5: Good rainfall is forecast for Kishanganj, Araria, Purnia, Katihar, Supaul, Madhepura, Saharsa and Madhubani. Scattered showers are also expected in Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Bhojpur, Buxar and Rohtas.
August 6: Cloudy skies and spells of light rain are likely to persist across several districts.
Bihar Still Faces A Rainfall Deficit
Despite the expected improvement in rainfall, Bihar continues to experience a weak monsoon.
Patna recorded just 1.6 mm of rain during the past 24 hours, while Tayabpur in Kishanganj received the highest rainfall in the state at 74.4 mm.
Kishanganj has received 120% more rainfall than normal so far this season, whereas rainfall has remained near normal in Muzaffarpur.
Several districts—including Darbhanga, Purnia, Samastipur, East Champaran and Siwan—have received below-normal rainfall.
A rainfall deficit also persists in Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Aurangabad, Nawada, Bhagalpur, Munger, Khagaria, Begusarai, Banka and Sheikhpura.
According to IMD data, Bihar has received 294.4 mm of rainfall so far this monsoon, against a normal 512.9 mm, leaving the state with an overall 43% rainfall deficit.
