Patna: Bihar is expected to witness largely normal weather conditions over the next two days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) ruling out the possibility of widespread heavy rainfall in any district during this period. However, isolated thunderstorms, gusty winds and light to moderate showers are likely in several parts of the state.
According to the weather department, parts of Rohtas, Aurangabad, Gaya and Nalanda may experience gusty winds of up to 50 kmph on Friday, accompanied by thunder and lightning. While no heavy rainfall warning has been issued, residents in Patna and several other districts are expected to continue experiencing humid conditions, with cooler winds likely during the evening.
Rainfall Recorded in Several Districts
During the past 24 hours, Bagaha, Bettiah, Raxaul, Sitamarhi, Nalanda, Aurangabad and Supaul received significant rainfall, leading to waterlogging in some low-lying areas. In Raxaul, heavy showers on Thursday caused water accumulation on several roads, disrupting traffic.
Flood Threat Increases as Nepal Rains Continue
Even as heavy rain remains absent across much of Bihar, flood concerns are mounting due to persistent rainfall in neighbouring Nepal. Water levels in major rivers, including the Kosi, Gandak and Bagmati, have risen sharply.
Officials said that 153,550 cusecs of water were released from the Kosi Barrage at 6 am on Friday, while around 115,000 cusecs were discharged from the Barah region upstream as inflow continued to increase.
The rising river levels have already affected several flood-prone areas. In Bagaha, nearly 300 families from Sisai and Chiurahi panchayats have been forced to take shelter in temporary tents along the Dhanha-Ratwal main road after floodwaters threatened their homes.
Why Bihar Is Not Receiving Widespread Monsoon Rain
Meteorologists said Bihar has not witnessed widespread monsoon rainfall because the monsoon trough has not remained consistently positioned over the state. As a result, conditions have not been favourable for continuous rainfall.
In addition, no strong low-pressure system has developed over the Bay of Bengal, limiting the possibility of widespread heavy rain. Instead, intense daytime heating combined with high humidity is triggering the formation of localised clouds, resulting in scattered thunderstorms and isolated showers rather than state-wide rainfall.
Weather Forecast for the Next Week
The IMD expects no major change in Bihar’s weather over the next seven days. Cloudy skies are likely to persist across most districts, with intermittent light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds at several places.
Heavy rainfall is considered unlikely during the early part of the week, although rainfall activity may increase in some regions towards the end of the week. Temperatures are expected to remain relatively stable, but high humidity levels will continue to cause discomfort.

Patna is likely to witness partly cloudy skies on Friday, with one or two spells of light rain or thundershowers possible during the day.
The city is expected to record a maximum temperature of around 34°C and a minimum of 27°C. Humid conditions will prevail through the day, while the weather may become comparatively pleasant during the evening due to cooler winds.
