Patna: Police in Bihar have arrested a 60-year-old man accused of conspiring with his niece to murder her husband so they could continue their relationship. The man, identified as Jeevan Prasad, was detained at a hotel in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, where he was staying under a false identity.
According to investigators, Prasad’s niece, 27-year-old Gunja Singh, married Priyanshu Kumar Singh, also 27, on May 21. However, just a month later on June 24, Priyanshu was shot dead near Lembokhap village in Aurangabad district while returning from Varanasi.
Police said Gunja, who had lived with her uncle since childhood, was romantically involved with him for nearly 15 years. After her marriage was arranged against her wishes, she and her uncle allegedly planned the killing together. She reportedly hired two shooters from Jharkhand, Jaishankar Choubey and Mukesh Sharma, to carry out the murder.
Gunja was arrested earlier this month after police examined call records and found that she had been in regular contact with her uncle and the shooters before the killing. She is accused of providing her husband’s location to the assassins on the day of the attack. During questioning, she told officers that she had fallen in love with her uncle despite the age difference, saying, “Love is love. It does not see age.”
Police said the uncle was handed over to Bihar authorities on transit remand, and both shooters have been arrested. The investigation revealed that Gunja had previously called off two marriages under pressure from her uncle before she was forced to marry Priyanshu. An SIT formed to investigate the murder cracked the case after retrieving the victim’s call data, revealing the conspiracy.
